OUO and OUSinfonietta announce new synergistic co-organisation

The Oxford University Orchestra (OUO) and the Oxford University Sinfonietta (OUSinf) are announcing a new co-organisation of the two orchestras to foster an exciting future of top-quality orchestral music making at Oxford.

Importantly, the scope of the two orchestras will remain the same with each orchestra retaining its own manager. OUSinf will still be a student conducted chamber orchestra focussing on more pre-Romantic and more contemporary repertoire, alongside its annual composition competition. OUO will continue to programme the large symphonic repertoire for which it is known. Both orchestras are also committed to explore more alternative canon repertoire within their programmes.

The new organisation arrangement will allow both orchestras to share a pool of players who are selected from the best which the University has to offer through the centralised OUMS auditions process. We believe that this will maximise and improve the performance quality of both the orchestras whilst also streamlining the orchestral management to allow more scope for stimulating and developmental opportunities for the players.

Current students with a desire to be part of the new OUO/OUSinf organisation but who are not currently involved, are encouraged to go through the OUMS auditions process.

Holders of current committee positions (except the managers) will continue in their roles until these are due for handover, at which time they may be combined with equivalent roles to cover the two orchestras.
